Les Baux-de-Provence is a very picturesque Medieval village at a fortified rocky site positioned in the Alpilles mountains. The top of the village is crowned with a ruined castle overlooking the plains to the south. The village is officially classified and labeled as “one of the most beautiful villages in France”. We really enjoyed the ancient houses, beautiful Renaissance façades, and cute little craft shops selling Provençal products and souvenirs. Outside of the village, we visited the permanent exhibition of the Cathédrale d’Image, an audio-visual extravaganza projected onto a 4.000m² rock-face disguised as a giant movie screen… impressive.
